The 2018 Rotary Car Show will be in Memory of James (Jim) Buffington who passed away on December 28th 2017. Jim was a long time member of the High Springs Rotary Club and was the founder of our Car Show 26 years ago. A Short Message from Our Car Show Chairperson
RE: High Springs Rotary Car Show – 10/27/2018
Dear High Springs Merchant, Car Show Participant, and Anyone Interested:
As you may (or may not) know, the High Springs Rotary Club’s Annual Car Show is coming up on the date above. The Car Show began in 1992 as a fundraiser for the Club and has a very solid following with typically more than 100 cars participating. The event is held around the Chamber Building and while we try not to negatively impact any businesses, some sections of city streets and parking will be blocked and used for the event.
As chair of the event committee, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to get as much out of our event as possible. We have posted a map quest map of our show location to help if you are unfamiliar with High Springs (see Below). There is also an application – we would love to see your classic and/or restored cars and trucks!
I would also like to offer for you to include coupons and/or information about your business for us to include in our registration packets. If you are interested please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and be ready to provide 100 items. We would also love any door prizes you can donate (be sure to include a business card or flyer about your store!).
And what is Rotary anyway? Well, if you aren’t familiar with our service organization – here’s a quick snippet.
Locally: The High Springs Rotary Club was founded in 1926. While currently a relatively small club in membership, we continue to hold 2 main fund raisers per year (The Duck Race in May and the Car Show in October) and serve our community in many efforts but to name just a couple:
Boy Scouts, Troop 69 & Cub Scouts, Pack 69 – We are the sponsor organization and provide guidance, support and funds in all areas needed. We attend recruiting events, promotions and bridging ceremonies and partner with the City of High Springs and the Scouts to maintain the Scout Hut property.
Santa Fe High School Interact Club – We are the sponsor organization and provide guidance, support and funds. Typically the Interact Club provides volunteers for our events and we in turn sign-off on Community Hours. We provide a SAS (Service Above Self) Award to 1-2 8th Graders each year, and send 2 high school students to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) every summer.
Annual Dictionary Project – The Rotary Clubs of Alachua County put a dictionary in the hand of every 3rd Grade student every year since 2003 (a project started by members of the High Springs Rotary Club!).
We currently meet every Monday 6 PM at El Patio Restaurant in down town High Springs.
Globally: The first Rotary Club was founded in 1905 in Chicago by Paul Harris and was intended to be a networking opportunity for like-minded businessmen with high business and ethical standards.
Polio Plus – In 1979 Rotary International. began the project, delivering 6m vaccines. Rotary International’s Polio Plus project is so respected and supported, in 2013 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation agreed to match Rotary’s funds, only to later extend the agreement, matching up to 35m each year through 2018. And We Are Close! In 1988 there were 350,000 cases of polio annually, in 2012 there were 223 and those were only in 3 countries.
Water Quality – With Polio firmly in hand, Rotary is now turning attention to Water Quality issues all around the world. It’s the base for a strong and healthy community, providing clean drinking water, irrigation for crops and livestock – preventing the spread of disease. Wells dug and installed into communities are sustainable, requiring little to no continued funds or equipment.
I hope this information is useful.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Heather Clarich, Chair of the Car Show Committee and Proud Member of the High Springs Rotary Club since 2003
